The "A" Family {Austin, TX Family Photographer}

I was so excited when my friend Kelly asked me to assist her with this family shoot. 2 Grandparents, 4 children, their spouses, 16 grandchildren and 2 dogs--it was definitely going to take both of us tag-teaming to make sure everyone was photographed. :) Everyone arrived decked out in western wear which went perfectly with the location Kelly had picked. There was a lot of laughing, hollering and shouting ;) but in the end their pictures came out and we had a blast!

Photographing you all was SO much fun! Enjoy!

So this isn't my usual editing style but because of the "cowboy" theme I decided to give it a try--I really like how it came out!

I am not normally a proponent of people climbing in trees...lol...but Mom wanted this picture and I'm glad because it came out so cool--and no one was killed or injured. Whew!

Kelly was shooting some other pictures and I took this candid at the end of the shoot that I think is totally adorable!

I love taking anniversary pictures--something about capturing a couple after years of marriage, kids, and ups and downs, still in love, gives me a warm fuzzy feeling inside. :) Vivian wanted the pictures shot in their new house that has not been moved into yet, so it was a nice, big, light space like a studio!

The "E" Family {Austin, TX Family Photographer}

It was foggy and rainy the whole morning, and the whole drive to the shoot. I was a little worried, because of schedule conflicts and out of town family, we wouldn't be able to reschedule. I scouted out some places we could use if it was absolutely pouring and we had to choice but to retreat. Thankfully, the rain stopped at 9:00am, when the shoot began, and started again at 9:30--which gave us barely enough time to capture some wonderful pictures of this fun family! It was very windy and cool but the location was gorgeous! They were good sports and made my job really easy and fun!

Andrew and Kyrie: Married {Austin, TX Wedding Photographer}

Andrew and Kyrie's day was just gorgeous. The colors she chose went perfectly with the finally-showing-fall colors, the wedding party was fun and supportive and the weather was perfect. Oh, not to mention the beautiful bride and handsome groom and their sweet love for each other! I loved photographing their day! Congratulations to you both on your happily ever after!

After the reception, just the two of them and I went downtown for a more intimate photo shoot of them. This is something I HIGHLY suggest!

Kyrie wanted to try for a shot like this, but it was hardly dark out when we were wrapping up pictures. I turned on the headlights of my super-cool min van, put my exposure way down and tried to capture what she had in mind. I love how it turned out!

Laughter and Love {Austin, TX, Family Photographer}

Happy (late) New Year! I hope you all had a wonderful holiday season! Ours was very special and we got to spend a lot of time with family--so much that this blog has been neglected for TOO long! However, I'm back in the swing of things and will be posting like normal!

As you can see, I gave my blog a much needed makeover--well, my wonderful husband did most of the work-- ;) and I really like the results! I still need to tweak a few things but I'm just happy that it's up and running and looking a lot better than it used to!

I photographed this adorable family in late November, and as you can see, it was finally starting to look like Fall in TX! They picked a new location that I've never shot at before and it was just gorgeous. But what made it even more gorgeous was the laughter and love this family shares so openly--it was a beautiful thing to be a part of. So even though it's a little late, please enjoy! :)

Sometimes I go away from a session hoping I got at least a few good ones, because after chasing kids around who don't want to sit still, it's hard to know what you got--but I actually had a hard time choosing which pictures to post here--they all turned out so good! :) Thanks, "C" family! The "M" Family: Lifestyle Shoot

After throwing around a few ideas, Mom and I decided that it would be fun to do a picnic session for their shoot this year. It was a good thing, because little "A" wanted nothing to do with getting pictures done and it was super windy, so we got several cute candid's during the picnic and afterwards at the park. It was different than what I usually do, but in a good way! Enjoy! :)

I've photographed this family a few times over the past year, and each time they are such a joy to work with! They always look great, have wonderful smiles and lots of love for each other. This year, Mom found a new location that I had never shot at before and it was a big hit. I loved it and will definitely be using it again in the future. Because of the sun and shadows, we weren't able to use this old truck as much as I would have liked--but I do like how this one came out! :)

My grandparents traveled all the way from Upstate, New York, to Texas to visit us this past week. Our family is very close and it has been so much fun having them around for a few days, getting to know my kids better, cooking Italian food, sightseeing and laughing a lot. They've been married for 56 years--something I hope that I will have the honor of saying someday!

This shoot was one of my favorite's of all time. I wanted to learn about sun flare and shooting in the "golden hour" so my friend and her beautiful children helped me out. Of course, a lot of the pictures were hit and miss, but this one was an absolute favorite. It's just a classic family portrait but I love it!

Princess "A" {Austin, TX Newborn Photographer}

I'll be honest: newborns are at the top of my list to photograph. I absolutely love meeting them at only a few days old, curling them up in cute poses and capturing this precious time forever. Parents, the squishy, sleepy time doesn't last long, so make sure you take lots of pictures of your little one in those first 2 weeks--and get a photo shoot done so your photographer can do all the work for a few hours while you relax. :)

Little "A" was not too interested in sleeping for her session, but she was still as sweet as can be and I love how her pictures turned out! Congratulations to her Mom and Dad! You have a beautiful little girl!

In May, my husband and I "modeled" for the San Antonio I Heart Faces Workshop. It was quite an experience, being surrounded by 20 ladies with cameras, all trying to get their best shot.

However, it was so worth it to get some absolutely gorgeous pictures of Nate and I. It's not an opportunity that comes along often, and as awkward as it may have been, I'm so thankful for the images we got in return. Thanks so much Angie Arthur, Julie Rivera and Rachel Durik for being such gracious hosts. It was an honor to meet each one of you. I have followed each of their blogs for a while now and to meet them and have pictures that they took...of us! is so incredible. The following pictures are by Tracey Washington, Julie Rivera, and Rachel Durik.

I know there was another lady who sent me pictures, but I cannot find your information--so if you read this please give yourself a shout out! :)

The family came together to celebrate one member's graduation from Police Academy. I did little "L's" one year pictures and I was thrilled when she came back for an Easter mini session! She wasn't too into pictures this day, but Mom and Dad did a great job at getting some smiles out of her and I just clicked away as usual! :) This location was a little annoying to walk to ;) but it was perfect for Spring/Easter, and a great alternative to bluebonnets since they all died off early this year!

Answered Prayers {Austin, TX Newborn Photographer}

All babies are miracles, but some are a little harder to come by. Some show up as unplanned surprises, but our hearts cannot contain the love we have for them. Others come after years of prayers and tears, when men thought it might be impossible. Bryan is one of those miracle babies that has been many years in the making. ;) I posted Mom's maternity pictures here where you can read a little about her struggles and find a link to her own blog. Bryan will always have a special place in all of our hearts. He is Daddy and Mommy's little miracle and I know they thank God for him every day! I hope you enjoy his photos!

Bryan decided that he did not want to be naked anymore, so we fed him, swaddled him, Mom rocked him to sleep and we got some beautiful images of him so cozy and warm.

Tim and Cara: Married, Part 1 {Austin, TX Wedding Photographer}

Tim and Cara met at college. They knew there was something "there", but nothing was said until Tim asked Cara out for dinner. The rest is history and within a few minutes of meeting with them I could tell they are totally meant for each other! Their wedding was very elegant and classic with lots of love shared between the families and each other. It was such a perfect day to be a part of. Thank you Cara and Tim and family! :)

I love this candid shot! This is Mom seeing her daughter as a bride for the first time, and Cara's sisters in the corner and background, all smiling. After Cara got dressed it was a little emotional in the room....yes, even I got emotional. (no surprise there!) :)

With her sister on her left as Matron of honor and best friends. These girls were a riot to spend the day with :)

As soon as they walked out after being pronounced husband and wife I was able to capture this sweet, tender moment between the bride and groom.

They had an ice cream bar at the reception--best idea ever!

Cara's sister Amber was sitting on an airplane on a runway in Japan when the horrific earthquake hit. She was of course delayed a few days and there was a lot of waiting and wondering if she would make it for the wedding. She didn't, but just as I called her family up for pictures she walked in and it was, once again, a very emotional moment. I'm sure this picture will be very special to both of them as they remember all that happened before Amber walked in to share a few special moments with her newly-wed sister. (And really, who looks this good after 3 days of travelling???)

The rose petals were so beautiful as they exited the reception :)

After everything was over, I was able to go with Tim and Cara to a beautiful botanical gardens to do pictures with just the 2 of them. It was so romantic to watch and follow them around, just capturing candid shots of their first hours together as a married couple!

We didn't do many "poses", but this was one that we did do and I loved... twirling his bride :)

25 Years {Austin, TX, couple photographer}

They will be celebrating 25 years of marriage next month with a ceremony and vow renewal and I was thrilled when they asked me to do their pictures! It was one of the most romantic and beautiful sessions I have ever done. At one point, there were tears of joy from the wife as I was capturing an intimate shot--such a sweet moment!

To see a couple after quarter of a century so in love and able to laugh and have fun together is truly rare. I am so happy I got to be a part of it! Congratulations you 2 love birds on 25 wonderful years!

There are Two Things in Life...

Someone once said, "There are two things in life for which we are never truly prepared: twins".

While cute, I'm sure there couldn't be a truer statement! I met these sweet little girls in their home this past weekend and had a blast. They are 7 weeks old already but still less than 8 pounds each and once their little bellies were full, the room was super hot and we were all sweating, they slept like champs and we were able to get some beautiful images. I had a very hard time narrowing down what I wanted to post!

Congratulations "K" family--your love for each other and your children is so evident in your smiles and laughter and you are doing a fantastic job with your little blessings!

She made the tiniest little peep and I caught it and I think it's adorable!

For this Child I Prayed...

Jessica has been through so much for several years, I wouldn't even know where to begin. She had severe health problems that resulted in 3 separate surgeries (read her story here), delivered a beautiful still born baby girl almost 3 years ago, her husband lost his job for several months--I could go on and on. All the while she yearned for another baby with all her heart. Finally after 2 years of prayers, she got the news that she was expecting again, but was apprehensive because there was no guarantee that the baby would make it full term. The condition that caused baby JoLynn to die could very well happen again. This pregnancy has been very different from her last--she is on constant watch from both a specialist as well as her normal OBGYN. She gets sonograms every few weeks to make sure everything is going well, wears a PICC line to make sure she is constantly getting the nutrients that she needs and has to give herself shots a few times a day. She's been hospitalized several times, but made it past 30 weeks and doesn't have much longer before her scheduled C-section date! We are so thankful that things are looking so good and can't wait to meet her beautiful baby boy in about a month!

Jessica, you are a beautiful woman inside and out and I'm so thankful that we are close friends. Thanks for letting me document such a precious time in your life!

You complete me. You are patient, understanding, sweet and kind. You smile and comply while I make you stop so we can take self portraits every where we go. You laugh when I confess that I finished off the rest of the chocolate. You hold me when I have a bad day, help me with the kids, buy me soup when I'm sick and smother me with kisses till I can't breathe. ;) You are my soul mate, my man, my hero. I can't believe that I get to spend my whole life with you, serving the Lord, raising our children, living, loving and laughing the whole way.

Jasmine Star Workshop

I'm still in awe that I got to attend a "Branding You" workshop by the amazing Jasmine Star. I'm not sure when I started following her or how I found her but I've been drooling over her work for a few years now.
I read every blog post about her, JD and Polo. I admire the engagement sessions and the weddings. When I found out she would be speaking just a few hours away, I knew I wanted to go! I was so excited when my husband worked it out for me to go and made a little getaway out of it.

You should have seen us all, giddy with excitement to meet her and get our picture with her! Yes--we are stalkers. But in a good way. I think.

The workshop was about "Branding You". She had about an hour and a half to speak, and it flew by. The main topic was "How to brand your Online Presence."

5) Differentiation

-why are we positioning ourselves to look like everyone else? You need to stick out and play your own game. * Intangible competition. What makes you different, and why aren't you showing that off?

*Choosing Photographers not Photographs. Once your pictures pass "the good test", clients then need to pass the "you test". As long as they think your pictures are good, they want to know if they like you.

* Can you say, "I am different." ?

4. Selective Clientele

*Your initial contact with them is your website or blog. You need to put SO much of yourself into your website! Set it up so they know you and like the photos before they even see them!

*Meeting and interview. By the time they see you, they should feel like they already know you.

*Who is your client? If you don't know they type of client you want to shoot, how can you know how to target them?

"IF YOU DO NOT HAVE A PICTURE OF YOURSELF ON YOUR WEBSITE, THEN SHAME ON YOU". --Jasmine

3. Reach

*National recognition. When your work starts getting recognized on other blogs, etc, people start focusing on you. Put your work out there. The worst they can say is no!

2. Archival Marketing

*try to have your work featured online rather than in magazines, because it will be there forever.

*IN your blog posts, tag locations, etc, so that it will come back to you

* Slideshow galleries are so important. It's an online commercial starring your clients for you.

*Comments. People will not leave comments for an organization. They will leave comments for a person. Be personal!

*Facebook. Put 8-10 awesome pictures on facebook, and then a link to your blog where they can get more info.

1. FREE!

*All of these things are free. Jasmine's average bride spends $10,000.00 on her wedding collections and she's never spent a dime on marketing.

Well, there you have it. A good portion of my notes. :) I hope this helps you in some way and that it wasn't too confusing! It's hard to put an 90 minutes of a workshop into one short post, but hopefully these tips will give you something to work on like it did me!

I wonder why they can't stay small forever, looking up at me like I'm the best thing in the world that ever happened to them.

I wonder why these moments can't last.

The goofy moods, the crazy faces, the puckered lips.

The sheer innocence of being a child and not having a care in the world.

As much as I wish they could stay young forever, they won't. But they will stay young today.
So today I will cuddle with my babies, taking in every smile, every giggle, every twinkle in their eyes as they look at me and play with each other. These moments won't last forever, but I am determined to enjoy the moments that I have today.

Where Will the Session Take Place?
I do my best to create a very relaxed experience for your photo session. Sessions take place at an outdoor location or somewhere in your home with plenty of natural light. If you don't have a location in mind, I can offer suggestions.
What will my session experience be like?
We will have about an hour together in or around the Austin, TX area and in that time I will capture your precious memories and special moments. We will take time to calm crying babies and let little ones run and play so that I can preserve those moments you want remember forever.

What if I need to cancel?
When you book your session, you will be required to pay a small deposit to hold your date and time. If an emergency comes up, you may reschedule for a more convenient time. Your deposit, though it does not expire, is non-refundable.

Can I print my Own Pictures?
In a word, yes, but I don't recommend it (see below). You will have a print release given to you with your disk of portraits so that you may order prints from the lab of your choice. This does not give you rights to sell, edit or use in any way other than personal use.

Can I order Prints from You?
This is something I strongly suggest. Ordering prints through me will assure that you will receive a professional, high quality print that has not had coloring or quality altered in any way.
After prints are ordered, we will make arrangements for you to pick them up or have them shipped to your home.

What to Wear

I often get asked, “What should we wear?” I put together a little inspiration in hopes that your creative juices will get flowing to come up with some fabulous outfits for your shoot!

I have created a “What to Wear” guide on pinterest and provided you the link along with a couple tips.

--For family pictures, solid tops with jeans or skirts are great. Different colors are wonderful as long as they tie in—you’ll see this on the picture guide. Also, a few prints thrown in are great-- but not too many. Try not to mix prints/plaids/stripes, etc, as it will clash when you are all together.

--Everyone doesn’t have to look like clones, but should be well coordinated. The days of white and khaki are over. Bring on the color, as long as it all ties together!

--Accessories can make or break your family picture! J A bright scarf, tie, flower or necklace can really change the whole look of your outfit—for the better! So pay special attention to those details!

--Couples: Bring on the fun and flirty! A pretty, flowy dress for her and jeans with a button up shirt and sports coat are awesome! Accessories are important for you, as well!

--Lastly, don’t forget that we will probably see your shoes! So don’t forget to wear something that goes great with your outfit. Lime green sneakers with a red dress just might clash a little.

Tiny baby "C" wanted her entrance into the world to be well remembered. She caused Mommy a very rough time--an emergency C-section followed by severe complications. But Mom is recovering and doing well and baby is the sweetest thing ever! Big sister loves her to death and is so gentle with her!

Baby "C" was determined to remember her session and not fall asleep, but I still got some very sweet awake pictures! Both of them are gorgeous! Enjoy Mom! :)

I am the oldest of 9 children. My 2 youngest sisters are only 6 and 8, so my daughter is more a little cousin or sister to them than a niece. :) When my Mom came with my sisters to visit, the girls danced around for hours every day with Tu Tu's on. I wanted to do a photo shoot of the 3 of them and it seemed perfect to have them dress up as little ballerina's. :)

There were lots of great backdrops around and with such good looking people you can't lose! :) I did little Ava's newborn pictures and she's gotten so big! I shared a beautiful evening with the "P" family a few weeks ago. We started out the shoot with some gorgeous light! I tried incorporating an idea of hanging a canopy in a tree and I was really happy at how it turned out! This really is the most beautiful time of the year here!

This morning I read a great article (you can read it here) about capturing something other than faces. It adds the the character of a picture and can really tell a great story! So, I decided to keep my eyes out throughout the day to put this into practice. My daughter wanted to "help" me clean the bathroom so I put her right to work scrubbing the toilet. She actually does a pretty good job! Of course, baby brother also wanted to "help" by touching the cool blue water, splashing and having the time of his life. Instead of being a good Mother and bringing my boys hands OUT of that nasty water, I grabbed my camera and snapped a few shots. (Don't hate!)

I think this picture tells a funny little story and is better than if would have taken it of their faces. :)

And don't worry, when I was done, he was banned from the bathroom!

I did a few photo shoots before leaving for a loooooong vacation, but wasn't able to edit or post anything while I was away--thanks to a laptop that decided to take a vacation too! Anyway, I'm finally back and working away. This little guy stayed awake for his entire session--a very big accomplishment for a baby only a few days old! Thankfully he was cooperative, though, and we were able to capture some very sweet moments. Thanks Mom and Dad for jumping in for a few of them--I love the way they turned out!

Gorgeous Senior! {Austin, TX Senior Photographer}

This was such a fun session for me to do! Nichelle was such an awesome model--gorgeous smile, long blond hair, beautiful green eyes and the sweetest personality. It had rained all day and we didn't know if we should go ahead with the shoot. We took a chance and the weather cleared up for about 30 minutes for all the outdoor photos before it started pouring rain again! We ran to the library and got a few cute shots in there before we wrapped it up! :)

Nichelle is graduating from Baylor this year with a major in psychology and going on to med school next year. Great job Nichelle, and good luck at school next year!

Hello! Contrary to popular belief, I am still alive and well and have not fallen off the face of blogger earth! :) March was a very busy month for us, but I'm back to a normal schedule now and wanted to give you a sneak peek! Last night my husband and I took our children to a gorgeous blue bonnet field for a photo shoot. They are so vibrant this year, and I've never seen so many! I've also never taken my kids pictures in them and wanted to since they are so gorgeous! Since the sun was going down, we had the most amazing light, and the kids had napped and eaten so they were very well behaved. Most of the pictures I got last night were some of the sweetest moments I have ever seen between them, and they were not posed. They are best friends and I'm SO happy I got these pictures! Enjoy!

This one below was one of those sweet moments! I don't know how a 6 month old knows to turn around and "kiss" his sister, but he did and it made for one of my favorites!

I was extremely nervous for my very first engagement shoot, but this couple was easy and up for anything, making my job very enjoyable! We really wanted this shot in front of the red doors, but the sun was so bright and I didn't think it would turn out. I hope you all had a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year! We were able to celebrate it with my family out of state and experienced LOTS of snow during our holidays. My husband went snowboarding 3 times and I went sledding. I'm not brave enough to do much more than that! :)
